A face and a Little Free Pantry
Not all “establishment” food banks such as Hopelink are currently able to take donations of actual food. So I’ve got a scattering of Little Free Pantries, close cousins to Little Free Libraries, programmed into my GPS in order to make donations of non-perishable food items on behalf of my clients. Better yet, I’ve got one only minutes from my house, on a major road which is my route to my bank, my post office and a whole bunch o’ clients. Convenient!!
Couple of days ago, as I walked up to make a donation to that #1 favorite location, someone else was already in line. On a bike, had a hoodie, small plastic grocery bag in hand. I admit it, I assumed she was taking supplies. So I stopped, said I didn’t want to rush her, and if she wanted to wait a minute, once I was gone, she’d be able to see what I was putting in as well.
Anybody remember “Assume makes an ass out of you and me?” I had the treat of a chat with one of the “owners” of this pantry, she’d simply come out to monitor the contents, stock up a little. Five families came together to first build this unit: one family takes great pride in the decorations, another came up with the idea of twining twinkle lights around the base so anyone can see it even in the middle of the night. She was fretting because she’s worried the unit might not withstand heavy rains, maybe they ought to put some kind of shed over the pantry.
