Read the Lines
The alarm flashed across my phone from one of those news consolidation sites that you sign up for without even knowing. “300% increase in hoarding!!!” That caught my attention.
So I tried to read the lines. I used to be a professional researcher, I can find ANYTHING. There is no documented 300% rise in hoarding disorder. Catherine Thorbecke‘s online ABC News article from March 4, 2020 9:06AM Americans hoarding hand sanitizer, face masks and oat milk amid coronavirus fears details a 300% increase in oat milk sales in one February week. The history of hand sanitizer—how the coronavirus staple went from mechanic shops to consumer shelves Sat, Mar 28 2020 9:31 AM EDT by Tom Huddleston Jr. cites a 300% increase in hand sanitizer sales from February 2019 to February 2020.
But no 300% increase in hoarding. Which is a good thing. People are stronger than we fear.
