Unglamming a gala

I was one of a bunch of volunteers for the Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary Snowball 2024 gala. I’ve been behind the scenes at plenty of other big-scale fundraisers, in pre-Organizer days. So I ironed tablecloths. Moved furniture. Loaned out my work cart to haul stuff. Scattered REALLY COOL sensory toy merch (turn them over like hourglasses and bubbles and shiny and swirly oh my) all over the place – the Dock in Fremont by the way, they are awesome lending out their time and space – and had a fantastic time.

And then offered to wash all the coverings at my place, because I have a real washer and a real dryer right in my apartment ♥.

I like doing laundry. Five bundles of throws and sheets and tablecloths, not so much. But…. there was glitter in the laundry, big diamond-shaped pieces. Became a ridiculous treasure hunt to find all the sparklies in my machines, hidden in the fabric, on my floor, on my bed where I folded the stuff. I’m NOT recommending that you scatter glitter in your laundry, unless of course you really want to. But there is a mindfulness practice of trying to find the satisfaction, the fun, the quiet of any given moment. Glitter in your laundry, soap bubbles in the sink when you do dishes. Just look around.
