I hope you know about Tool Libraries. Local repositories of tools which loan out those supplies to DIYers, never-touched-a-hammer-in-my-life-but-my-contractor-needs-THIS-ers, the tool-curious. LocalTools.org features them from Atlanta GA USA to Zhenmu, Fuqing, Fujian Province, China. It lists 11 Washington State members. And there are more enrolled through Repair Economy Washington.
The most amazing news about them – they are LIBRARIES, strong community hubs at a time when we need community more than ever. Just a five-minute inventory showed me sewing and knife sharpening and basic residential electrical classes, a clothing swap, fix-it fairs and makerspaces. My favorite listings, the ones which caught my eye to inspire this post – Capitol Hill Tool Library sponsoring a de-escalation skills-building workshop and a Practical Activism class. And many are hosted in LIBRARIES – WIN WIN WIN.
