Sentimentality Strikes Again

Three soda bottles from Republic Brewing Company. Acquired so long ago I don’t remember exactly when. And clung to with steadfast loyalty because they are souvenirs from one of my favorite vacations with my son. One of them stands on my front hall tree, guarding the stockpiled spare change that would otherwise weigh down my pockets for weeks on end which will occasionally, eventually end up going through the whirligig sorter at my bank.

The other two? Grimy, unused, in the way even though they were on the topmost shelf of my kitchen cabinet. Donated to Bella’s Voice last week. I didn’t ask my son about it, and that may prove to have been a mistake. But if he ever asks for it, the one I’ve kept will be his 30 seconds after, which seems a decent compromise.

We have other things from that trip with much more value. Fossils from Stonerose Interpretive Center (sorry, the website is crashed, phooo!). Husky Car & Truck Museum memories. Antiquing. Curlew and Winthrop. I’m not going to hurt my ability to use my kitchen for the sake of a thing.

Republic Brewing Company’s root beer is very very good.
