Innovate the Next – Tiisetso Maloma
Tiisetso Maloma, the author of seven books including The Anxious Entrepreneur: Anxiety Defeats Creativity – Creativity Defeats Anxiety (OH WOW, that’s ME!!), interviewed with David Chislett for the 2021 Playful Creative Summit and the conversation was as free-roaming as I’ve ever heard and I’m sure I’m not doing it justice. It touched on an idea that creativity can be unconstrained, while innovation needs to be anchored to designing for utilitarian purposes. They discussed free association – the minute something catches your attention, let your curiosity lead you anywhere. Maloma, for example, designs t-shirts. Selling the t-shirts led him to learn photography so he could take sales photos.
And they uncovered the truth that you have to be effective with your creativity and innovation: you have to develop the discipline to create not just a concept, but a final product. Production is a process, your ideas are projects. I need to dust off my project management books – I’ve got more webinars in me…
